Team Letter

Welcome to the U14 Republic soccer team for fall season 2016.
My name is Carlos Verduzco and I'll be coaching the team this season. I coach for the love of the game I do not have a player on the team. I also live in Manteca so I ask to be respectful of my time and try to attend all practices and games. I f you cannot attend, please indicate on the team app that we will use for communication or email me; if I don’t have at least 75% players I would cancel practice. All I ask is commitment, I don’t mind the drive or time I but if the team is not committed it is not fair to me.  Our goal is for the players to have fun and learn the game soccer along the way. Our team will be a team known to have Class. Class is not to feel above any other team or be demeaning. Class is to play as a gentleman or lady and act the same off the field. Class also applies to parents of the team. I need all parent to have class on the field while we play if you have any issues with other parents, other teams, referees or board member please come to me first. I will take care of the issues that may arise.  I ask all parents to support the team and players by letting them enjoy the game. Parents please let the players play; the coaches coach the team, and the referees’ ref the game. The team goal is not to win every game the goal is to be a better player and play as a team. The league requires 50% playing time everyone will play, I will make every effort to do that, but their maybe times that they may get more or less time. I try to keep good track of the time but at time may lose track of time during games. Player homework; players will only get better if they work on what was taught during practice if they continue to perform it at home.  Please make sure that they spend at least 30min on non team days to practice fundamentals like toe taps, side to side, or rollovers. I usually tell them their homework at the end of the practice if I don’t then fundamentals is the homework. They need to improve their score at every attempt.

Assistant coach and team parent: I need an assistant coach to help at time that I may not be able to attend. I am coaching 2 teams this year and I am OYSL BML/Comp Coordinator so I may have days that I will be swamped. As the assistant I don’t need someone that is an expert, I will communicate what the team needs to do and the asst will have the team perform it. So everything will be already done for you. Team parent I need a team parent to step up and help with the administration of the team so the assistant and I can focus on coaching the players. This position is not time consuming but more as a liaison for the parents.

Sacramento Republic Clinic: on Friday 29 July, 2016 our local pro team will have a clinic. I highly recommend for all the players to attend. This may be an only opportunity event. I will be following some of what they teach during the clinic and will be a great start to the season. Your player may be coached by a pro player that one day they may see on TV.

Practice: We will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays nights at Greger Park in Oakdale. Practices will usually be form 5-630pm. Practice will begin 2 august 2016.

Games: Games will start 20 august 2016 and end 29 October 2016. We'll receive our game schedule in a few weeks and I'll distribute it to you. A snack list schedule will also be included so the players get a treat and drink after the game. Treats are available at the concession stand. We'll have to provide two people to work a two hour shift at the concession stand for some game days during the season. If you like, we can split this up into 1 hour increments so that no one is overly burdened. This is a function I ask the parents to handle since concession proceeds are the biggest fund source for the league and helps keep soccer costs down.

Equipment: Your Player will need a size 5 soccer ball, shin guards and a water bottle. Soccer shoes are optional, but highly recommended. Each player will receive a uniform shirt, shorts, and socks for games. Will be given out during the Meet and greet on Thursday 28 July, 2016.

Communication: In the event of a practice or game cancellation, I’ll email and post on our team page. Please add the league app called Dick’s TSHQ; this app will keep you up to date with practice schedules games and other information that I may need to put out to the team as a whole.

Please email me when you receive this so I know you've been contacted. If you have questions or comments feel free to call or email. We look forward to a great season. Don’t forget to go to the Meet and Greet on Thursday!!!

Thanks, Coach Carlos
