2021 Softball Season

If you had registered with the Phillies RBI LeagueApps last year (12U-14U-18U age groups), you should be getting email letting you know of the virtual clinics that they have been holding throughout the winter months.  There have been sessions with several local college coaches and players going over hitting, fielding, and pitching.  If you have not yet attended one, I encourage you to check them out!  They're all free, just check the email that you used to sign up for the RBI league from last year.

Update 1/29/2021: We are hopeful that the Mayor will relax the restrictions around youth sports in the Spring.  We are opening softball registration on Feb 1st, and closing on March 7th.  When you register, you will not be charged a registration fee.  Registration fees will only be collected after (1) the mayor allows youth spring sports and (2) we have enough girls registered in an age level to make a complete team (or several teams).
Any questions, please reach out to me at [email protected] and thanks for your continued trust in the Parkwood softball program!

2021 Season Travel Softball Information

We expect to field teams in 12U, 14U, & 18U divisions, and will be playing in the newly formed Phillies RBI League.  This league began with the 18U age division in Fall 2019 and is expanding to include 12U and 14U in the Spring.   Joining the RBI league allows our girls & coaches access to various free programs that the Phillies set up, including coaches' clinics, players' clinics, college "play day" clinics, and Phillies RBI events at Citizens Bank Park.  Over the winter of 2020/2021, they have been running multiple Zoom clinics with local college coaches. In addition, this league uses USA (formerly ASA) softball rules for all age divisions, and this may be the only league currently using these rules within the City of Philadelphia.  If we have enough girls for an 8U or 10U team, they will need to be registered in another league as the RBI league is not currently planning on carrying these age groups.

Parkwood does not have pre-formed teams, so if you are new to the area (or if you have heard about how strong our softball program is and you're looking to join us) you are welcome to register your daughter for one of our teams.  If your daughter wants to play in High School and you do not want the high cost & time commitment of tournament softball, consider registering her here at Parkwood. Our teams focus on fundamentals of the game, base running, situational plays, communication, and teaching the girls to play together as a team without coaches directing their every move.  Your daughter will learn how to keep up with the speed of high level softball on this team, without the excessive travel and cost of joining a tournament team.

Clicking on the registration button, once available, will allow you to register your daughter onto an age-appropriate team.  A player's "age" for softball is defined as the child's age on 1/1/2021.  If your daughter turns 13 on 1/2/2021, she is still eligible to play 12U softball, as she was 12 on 1/1/2021.  If you are interested in having your daughter "play up" in age, please
Contact softball director Lisa Mundy   after registering and explain why you want her to move up. A player can be moved up only one age bracket.  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will a child be allowed to play in a lower age bracket.  Copies of birth certificates will be required once teams are set, and any attempt to falsify a child's age will immediately terminate their eligibility to play on any Parkwood softball team.  Please note that Parkwood may move girls up in age group if necessary to form teams.

Weather permitting, the season will begin in early March.  We try to place all girls onto teams, but do realize that sometimes cuts may need to be made.  If necessary, tryouts will be held in March. No payments will be made until girls are placed onto teams.  The registration fee of $125 covers uniforms, umpire fees, and team supplies and will be due 2 weeks after the teams are set.

Refunds will only be honored up to 15 days after the start of the season.

RBI League Bat Information

FOR AGES 12U, 14U, and 18U ONLY

Legal bats will have one of these 3 stamps.  BE AWARE that composite bats ARE allowed.  This means that balls will be coming off the bats significantly faster than they were coming off of aluminum bats.  For this reason, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND facemasks for pitchers, 1st basemen, and 3rd basemen at the minimum.
